JENNIFER MEHAU | Hapa Lomi Aesthetician

Jennifer struggled with severe acne from her early teens to her late twenties.

Always pro-active, she sought treatment at a dermatologist but experienced minimal results, considerable redness, and severe “irritation.” 

While working at a doctor’s office, Jennifer interacted with a patient - an esthetician - and the ultimate outcome was clear skin, a mentorship, and a blossoming love affair with the spa industry.

As anyone with acne knows, acne is never gone: most often, it has merely abated.

Jennifer became even more determined to defend her own skin.

Combining lifestyle changes, holistic approaches, and voracious reading, Jennifer was thrilled with her successes. 

She attended Massage School of Santa Monica in Los Angeles in 1994 and the Frederique Wholilstic Health and Beauty School of Hong Kong in 1995.

Her time there was well spent mentoring - under European, South African and Australian estheticians - attending trade shows, taking every "next' class and workshop she could find, as well as running her own business for five years.

When she finally came home, the first thing on her list was to study Lomilomi.

She spent a year with Sheila O’Malley, one of Aunty Margret Machado’s original students learning her new love, Lomilomi. 

In 1999, there were not many spa jobs to come home to.

Fortunately, a large hotel spa was opening.

Although she sought positions as a massage therapist and esthetician, she reluctantly accepted a managerial position.

However, the knowledge and experience she gained in opening a 10,000 square foot spa was invaluable.

Six months later the treatment room was calling her back.

She enjoyed five years of providing treatments in a beautiful spa with everything organized just the way she liked it.

She now treats all of her clients with the same basic principles: superior education, superior treatment, and superior products.

Spa Policies

SPA ETIQUETTE

Our goal is to create an intimate & soothing environment for everyone to relax and rejuvenate. To achieve this goal we kindly ask you to:

  • Silence all devices when checking in

  • NEW CLIENTS - please 10 to 15 minutes prior to your scheduled end appointment time for the necessary consultation, waiver and consent paperwork to be done prior to treatment.

  • Only 1 client is permitted per treatment room. This means no one may accompany you in the treatment room during the service unless client is a minor.

  • No photos or videos may be taken inside Honu You Hawaiian Spa without written consent of owner/manager.

  • Only children who are permitted to a service are allowed in the treatment room. Children are not allowed at your appointment or in treatment room unless they are receiving a service. If you bring a child to your appointment, we will be unable to provide your treatment. This will be considered a no show and you will be charged as such.

  • If you are bringing your minor child for their appointment, we ask that you leave siblings and other family members at home. Our lobby cannot accommodate extended family members in the waiting area and it is disruptive to other guests.

  • If you would like to stay with your minor child in the treatment room, we ask that you allow our therapist to perform the treatment and consultation uninterrupted.

Cancellation Policy

  • 24-hour cancellation or rescheduling notice is required. Your appointment has been reserved just for you, therefore Cancellation Policies will be enforced. You may cancel by calling/texting (808) 261-1268.

  • No Show: You will be charged 100% of the appointment fee if you No call/no show your appointment.

  • Cancelling or Rescheduling without at least 24 hours notice: Last minute cancellations or reschedules do not allow us enough time to attempt to fill the appointment slot, therefore you will be charged 50% of the fee for your booked services the first time you fail to give at least 24 hours notice. Future late cancellations will incur a fee up to 100%.

  • Arriving Late: Your treatment time will be shortened to fit into the time allowed for the specific treatment. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late your appointment is forfeited and you will be responsible for the appointment fee.

  • Your appointment is your responsibility: While we offer email, text message, and phone reminders, failing to receive them or read them does not waive your responsibility for your appointment time. Parents, you are responsible for your minor children’s appointment times and the fees they may incur for not attending or arriving late.

  • Please let us know of any health concerns or special request prior to treatment so this may allow us appropriate time to make necessary preparations or adjustments. Please review the following contradictions for treatments thoroughly before booking an appointment as arrive to you appoint with contradictions may result in an inability to safely provide your treatment & last minute rescheduling or cancellations fees may apply.

  • This is a short list of possible contraindications for facials, waxing or massage. Please call for guidance before booking an appointment if uncertain (808-261-1268).

    • Current or recent use of Accutane (must have discontinued Accutane for 6 months or more)

    • Current or recent use of Retinols such as Tretinoin, Retin-A, Renova, Differin, Tazorac, Avage, EpiDuo, Ziana and high-percentage AHA and BHA products. We require temporarily discontinuing use of these products for 5-7 days prior to your service. Please consult with your Doctor before temporarily discountinuing use of any prescription medications.

    • Sunburn on the face or area being treated

    • Open cuts or abrasions on the area being treated

    • Bruises and swelling

    • Active herpes lesions/Cold Sores, Conjuctivitis (“pink eye”), Severe eczema, Severe psoriasis, Impetigo

    • Fungal infection

    • Extreme allergic sensitivities

    • Illness – coughing, runny nose, soar throat with fever. In mild cases of symptoms consider if you have been traveling and/or know you have been exposed to an ill person.

    • Recent Botox or Filler treatment (no facial treatments within 48 hours for Botox, 2 weeks for Filler). We can perform your facial or wax directly BEFORE you receive Botox or Fillers.

    • Recent laser treatment (wait at least 2 weeks)

    • Facials/Acne Treatments: Do not wax the facial area within 7 days of your service

    • Pregnancy: if you are pregnant or nursing let us know so we can make treatment adjustments if required.

    • Health Conditions: please provide a Doctor’s note if you are undergoing treatment for any severe health conditions or have had surgery within the last 6 months. 

PARKING INFORMATON:

If you will be driving yourself, it is all metered parking in this area. Parking does get a little tight around here so please give yourself ample time to find parking. We keep a lot of quarters on hand if you need change.
